CPR - Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

We offer Red Cross, American Heart Association and Medic First Aid/Health & Safety Institute certifications

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure which is attempted in an effort to return life to a person in cardiac arrest. It is indicated in those who are unresponsive with no breathing or only gasps. It may be attempted both in and outside of a hospital. Training in CPR and a CPR certification prepare you to act if you are called on to save a life.

In this training session students learn to recognize and react to cardiac and respiratory emergencies in adults. Proper procedures for applying lifesaving compressions and rescue breaths are taught. Mannequins are used in practice sessions.

  • Course length: 3.5 hours (approximate)

AED - Automated External Defibrillator

An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm, and raising the chance of survival significantly.

The first AED was originally designed and created by American biomedical engineer Joshua L. Koelker and Italian emergency medical professional Jordan M. Blondino to allow defibrillation in common public places. AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder, and basic life support (BLS) level CPR classes.

Using a simulator, students will learn the proper operation of the AED.
